Dark Avengers / Uncanny X-Men: Utopia #1

This Week: (Complete list here)

Recommended Pick!

Low Moon
Monster Zoo he acclaimed graphic novelist Jason returns with his most eagerly awaited book yet, thanks to the inclusion of the title story, the world's first (and likely last) chess western. This 216-page hardcover book features five yarns - all brand new with the exception of the aforementioned "Low Moon," which is collected into book form for the first time.

Reviews

Red Robin #1
The events of Final Crisis and Battle for the Cowl have left their scars and Tim is now a pretty tormented character. I don't mind dark, but I really don't appreciate the darkening of one of DCs few bright spots.

Batman #687
Batman #687 did everything Batman and Robin #1 didn't do in setting the stage for the new status quo. This should actually have come out before B&R because it obviously takes place first.

Weekly Wanderlust - Shipped June 3 & 10, 2009
A look at some of the titles that shipped the previous week. This time: Absolution #0, Anna Mercury 2 #1,BTVS: Tales of the Vampire, Ignition City #3, The Strange Adventures of H.P. Lovecraft #2, Ultimate Spider-Man #133.

Batman and Robin #1
I went into this one with great trepidation. For me, it had everything going against it. Grant Morrison had two major strikeouts with his Final Crisis and Batman: RIP. I'll give him credit though; he ALMOST redeemed RIP with the last issue revealing that Bruce was in control of the situation the whole time.

Weekly Wanderlust - Shipped May 27, 2009
A look at some of the titles that shipped the previous week. This time: The Complete Dracula #1 (of 5), Jack of Fables #34, Sherlock Holmes #1 (of 5).

The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Century: 1910
It's been a while since Alan Moore has had a new comic out - for one of the most respected creators in the industry his output of late has been sparse. But he's back with the all new The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Century: 1910.

Weekly Wanderlust - Shipped April 2009
A look at a few titles that shipped in April. This time: Groom Lake #1, Jack of Fables #32, Top 10: Season Two Special #1, X-Force #13.

Weekly Wanderlust - Shipped March 4, 2009
A look at some of the titles that shipped the previous week. This time: Daredevil #116, Secret Warriors #2, Ultimate Wolverine vs. Hulk #3 (of 6), Unknown Soldier #5.

Ythaq: The Forsaken World #3 (of 3)
Ythaq is a science-fiction story set in the future; a luxury space ship carrying passengers has crashed onto a mysterious planet that doesn't seem to have the same technology as the rest of the universe.

The Zombies That Ate The World #1
This comic takes place in an alternate world where the dead have been coming back to life and co-existing with the living, much too the living's chagrin.

Agents of Atlas #1
After the first mini-series, Jimmy Woo - secret agent, scourge of the sinister organization Yellow Claw -- is now in charge of The Atlas Foundation, a sinister organization that for centuries has tried to return the legacy of Genghis Khan to control the world.

Criminal volume 4: Bad Night
Bad Night follows how this sad sack of a man, who just wanted to read the paper to ensure his comic strip made it to press correctly, finds himself spending the night with an amazingly beautiful but flawed red head.

Ghost AssassinGhost Assassin: Prelude
The premise of the title is that an assassin is haunted and aided by the ghosts of people he has slain. The prelude introduces the hitman, David, and Todd, a ghost, as the two close in on David’s latest assignment.

Black Summer
Black Summer is about one superhero taking matters into his own hands. After he executes the President of the United States, the V.P., and members of their staff, John Horus tells the American people to begin steps necessary to elect a replacement government.

Top 10: Cosmic Storylines
The Fantastic Four going into space to beat up on the Super Skrull and come back isn't cosmic; it's a typical story in an outer space setting. COSMIC is big screen comics- epic storylines with lots of action, different locales, and the Galaxy if not the Universe in jeopardy.

Top 10: Doctor Doom
Probably the second best bad guy ever created, the Man in the Iron Mask, the Lord of Latveria, Reed Richard's old college buddy- Victor Von Doom, DOCTOR to you.

Top 10: Daredevil
This time around, the Man Without Fear: Daredevil. This blind superhero has always been one of my favourite characters, and his stories have always been among my favourite reads.

Top 10: Galactus Tales
I'm not sure what it is that I like about the character; he's visually interesting thanks to great Jack Kirby design, and despite being a planet eating monster, has a sense of nobility.

Top 10: Darkseid Stories
Darkseid isn't a particularly interesting character. He's one dimensional- always attempting to get his hands on the Anti-Life Equation so he can conquer everything he sets his eyes on.

Top 10: My Favourite Thor Stories
Thor stories are usually spectacular and vast in scope- these are among the most spectacular comics stories ever done and among my all-time favourites.

Top 10: My Favourite Legion of Super-Heroes Stories
This time out I'm tackling my all-time favourite stories of the Legion of Super-Heroes. The best stories are the ones where the threat is so dire it takes the entire Legion to handle.

My Return to Comics part 1 -A Virgin's Dilemma
20 years. While no time seems to transpire in comic land, many changes can occur in a comic fan in the same time. This is my personal story of loss, love, self-discovery and eventual redemption.

Top 10: The Best Superhero Battles of All Time
This time around- the best super-hero fights of all time. I got bogged down compiling this one, as there were so many to choose from. The breakthrough came when I determined what made a great fight.
