Model
Operandi #1
After Hours Press
by Dennis Budd & Joe Caramagna
FC, 88pgs $5.95 US / Higher in Canada
Legsy Diamond is a hot new model taking the fashion world by storm, and everything
is fine and dandy until she has a small package delivered to her hotel room
- this is when lingerie meets espionage. Model Operandi might be labeled
"mindless fun" by Chris Eliopoulos (he wrote the intro), but you can
bet it's filled with plenty of action, bombs, car chases, and monster sized
boobs.
Model Operandi stars a number of quick witted femme fatales bent on
keeping events adrenalized and in the red, as the plot jumps from stolen jewelry,
fighting crime, and international intrigue. This 88-page full-coloured graphic
novel entertained with its thrilling adventure and three-dimensional cast, not
to mention a few great laughs.
The team of Dennis Budd and Joe Caramagna definetly have a hit on their hands
with Model Operandi - it's high-flying fun with lots of tease. (Dana

Raised
by Squirrels volume 1
www.raisedbysquirrels.com
by Bram & Monica Banko Meehan
BW, 58 pgs $4.95 US
SQRL, or Squirrel, is a U.S. organization sanctioned by the Senate committee
to find or create super-powered humans for the sake of national security. But
when it comes to espionage and government intelligence, the players are not
always safe - Tyler McAllister learnt this the hard way when he was left for
dead on a mission in Malta, but for all sakes and purposes it felt more like
a set up than any typical surveillance mission. It was Tyler's partner Rose
who insured his retirement from the Squirrel's, but this first volume brings
Tyler back into the fold to track down SQRL's former director.
Raised by Squirrels was created by wife and husband team, Monica Banko
Meehan and Bram Meeham. At first glimpse this graphic novel appears like any
average self-published comic book that comes our way on a regular basis, but
it didn't take long to see the imagination and quality put into the story. This
creative team barely touches on the layers of plot they've dreamt up in this
first volume, as it's expertly laid out in a fashion that benefits with numerous
reads. The art does look overly sketchy at times, but the talent seeps through
the added lines.
Raised by Squirrels is a superb read, and you can bet your ass you'll
want desert after you've finished devouring it. The Meeham's have single issues
available for download on their Web site, so you'll have no excuses in checking
this series out. (Dana Tillusz)
